When the terrifying Ashes Soldiers break through the Heaven & Hell Demon Gateway and swarm toward him in an unstoppable tide, Shi Hao places the unconscious Huo Ling'er safely on the ground and faces the horde alone. Outnumbered and overwhelmed, he is pushed to the absolute brink — his body bleeding, his energy shattered, his mind flooding with memories of those he has loved and lost. But from the depths of despair, he breaks free. Summoning every last ounce of his power, he calls forth spiky stone ramparts to hold back the endless wave — spending himself entirely in the process. When Huo Ling'er wakes to find him broken and bloodied, she makes the most heartbreaking choice imaginable: she surrenders herself to the Ashes Prison to protect him. And so, with love and fury burning in equal measure, Shi Hao charges through thorns and fire to reach her — his blood and her tears merging into something that rewrites both their fates.
